This stunning African cichlid (family Cichlidae) is found in the Lake Tanganyika. This species might be confused with Tropheus moorii 'mpulungu'. Also ilangi is considered as one of the most sought after Tropheus cichlids in the hobby.

Care tips

  • Rocky Tanganyika tank setup
  • Omnivore but mainly herbivore eater
  • Great filtration is mandatory
  • Spirulina based diet
  • Feed several times per day (small amounts)
  • Aggressive (keep in species specific tank)
  • Keep as a colony
  • Mouthbrooder

Tropheus moorii 'ilangi' is also known by Tropheus sp. 'ilangi' and King of the tropheus,

Below you can find photo and video collection of the Tropheus sp. 'ilangi' cichlids that my father have kept in the past. I personally have no experience with this species and African species in general. My father have had successful breeding attempts with the colony (20 adult species) he cared for. Sorry for the poor quality images.
