Published / Updated

This easy to keep shrimp (family Atyidae) comes in different colors within the hobby (Cherry red being the most common color). The natural coloration is actually brownish. In the hobby one can find a range of different coloration morphs e.g. red, blue, green, black etc. Neocaridina davidi originates from Taiwan (continent Asia).

Care tips

  • Prefers lower tank temperatures e.g. 22 celsius
  • Can tolerate wide range of water temperatures
  • Omnivore
  • Once the colony is established wil breed easily
  • Good cleaners

Neocaridina davidi (red morph) is also known by Cherry shrimp. Previous classification Neocaridina heteropoda and Neocaridina denticulata sinensis.

I have kept this species for perhaps 10 years or so. They can easily adapt to various conditions. I had a huge colony of at least couple hundred of them. From time to time introducing fresh blood lines. They really prefer planted tanks that has Asia / South America biotope direction.
