This magnificently colored South American dwarf cichlid (family Cichlidae) is native to Colombia, Venezuela and Brazil.

Dicrossus filamentosus is also known by Lyretail checkerboard cichlid and Checkerboard cichlid. Synonym to Crenicara filamentosa and Dicrossus filamentosa.
